Willingham Action Group

The Parish Plan Action Group

The Aim of the Action Group is to improve the quality of life for the residents of Willingham by seeking the implementation of the Willingham Parish Plan. The Parish Plan was presented to residents and the Parish Council in November 2008. Some of those involved in producing the plan wanted to continue to work to help ensure its execution. Discussion with ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) and South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) gave support to the idea of an action group, especially as it was reported from other parish plan groups that they felt their plans had been ignored. Volunteers were invited to attend the first meeting in January 2009 and there have been further monthly meetings of the group. Currently there are 18 members including two parish councillors.

At the first meeting it was decided to form three sub-groups that would meet more regularly and focus on particular aspects of the plan. The sub-groups are, Council Matters (Chairperson Reg Purnell), Social Aspects (Chairperson Marie Clements) and Youth Issues (Chairperson Reverend Trevor Rowe.)

There seems to be little precedent for cooperation between action groups and councils. Even so, WAG has made positive contact with the various councils and officers at SCDC and we need to consider how best to ensure continued collaborative working to ensure delivery of the Parish plan outcomes. This is especially so as we tackle the more demanding action points of the Plan such as providing more facilities for the young and reducing traffic speed and volume.
